Scammers sometimes pose as lottery officials to trick people into believing they've won a prize. Their goal is to get victims to send money, provide personal information, pay fake processing fees and taxes through a wire transfer or money order, or share bank account details so they can deposit winnings directly into your account.
The CT Lottery will NEVER ask players for bank account information or request money upfront to claim a prize. If someone does, it is a scam.
If you did not purchase a CT Lottery ticket or enter a CT Lottery 2nd Chance drawing, promotion, or giveaway, you cannot win a prize.

Scammers may call claiming you've won a prize and ask you to wire money or provide personal information. If you have caller ID on your phone, check the caller's area code, and if it's from out of state or a foreign country, that is suspicious and you should hang up if you suspect a scam.
Legitimate lotteries never ask for personal or financial information via email, nor will they ask for money. Do not reply, click links, or open attachments in such emails. Messages with poor spelling or suspicious email addresses are warning signs. You can always hover your cursor over the sender's email address to determine where the email is coming from – if it doesn't end in "@CTlottery.org" – that is suspicious and you should close out of the email.
The CT Lottery maintains a presence on Facebook, X, Instagram, LinkedIn and YouTube. Be cautious of messages from accounts claiming to be "Lottery agents" or employees. Always ensure you are engaging with the official and verified CT Lottery social media accounts.
If you receive an "official" looking letter by mail that indicates you’ve won a lottery prize and requests money or personal information – it's a scam. There are cases where people have not claimed a prize, and the CT Lottery may reach out by mail – but we will NEVER ask you for personal information or money.
Never agree to help a stranger cash a lottery ticket. This is a common scam where victims are tricked into giving money to scammers.
Some scammers create websites that look like official lottery sites. Never share personal or financial information on unfamiliar websites.
